Manong Rich's Fun Factor for Felix's Level 3 Test

Manong Rich's fun factor for Felix's Level 3 test. The concept behind it, funny as it is, is to emulate what it's like to fight after being rocked in the face. Depth perception and motor mechanics are off even though mentally you may feel like you're still in it 100%. Next time we will add pepper spray and tazers! lol

Thanks to all who came out to train and show support including Manong Rich, Karen, Richie, Bernie, Drew, James, Dale, Cody, Jessie, and Tracee.

Great workshop to start off 2015!

Had a great workshop today with the Manong Rich Verdejo/FCS Cali Crew/FCS Kali West Coast. We went over some 4 Walls to Contradas, me taking a beating from the entire group in a red suit, 4 Count to Punyo Entries with controls and take downs, Blade disarms to control and finishing moves, to Blade drill and application with folders. After we had some tribal bonding time which basically equates to food, alcohol, cigars, and stories.

Looking forward to the next workshop. Always a good time with Manong Rich and family and the FCS Kali West Coast tribe. Thank you for all who came out. Before we go we'd like to welcome some new blood to the group, Nick and Cody. See everyone next month!

Urban Tactical - Firearm Disarms Workshop

Instruction for the workshop will be conducted by James Urban.

Predators prey on the weak and defenseless. They use weapons to scare and intimidate their victims into submission. They expect you to cower and tremble when they shove the gun in your face or press the cold steel of a blade against your throat. They count on your fear!! Use that against them!!

EXPERIENCE the protection of oneself against life and death situations such as violent attacks, robbery, abduction, and Hostage situations. Never allow yourself to be a victim!

What You Missed In This Month's Workshop

IMG_7061

Baston

We had a good workshop yesterday. Before Manong Rich got there we worked on some sumbrada. We started out in largo and after a few minutes moved in to start adding in checks. After a few minutes of that Manong arrived and we bowed in.

We started the workshop with some light/slow sparring from largo distance so that we could practice evading and looking for targets from that range. So for example the person who initiates the first strike (feeder) goes for say angle 1, the receiver will evade and counter by attacking the nearest target they see available. It could be the weapon hand, it would be the live hand, or maybe its the leg. From there the feeder will counter attack and go for their nearest target right away. Sounds easy right? Maybe not right off the bat. Since we are going slow we have to time our strikes differently so that they land. It also shows what can be done to counter certain attacks.

Refinement

Refinement

Today's practice seemed to be themed around refinement. Taking a look at what we have learned, picking at a few things, clearing things up here and there that we might not be sure of, and then cleaning things up over repetition. If something looks sloppy, let's slow it down until we get it smooth. Sometimes we get a little excited and go a little fast. HEEEEeeeEEEEYYYYYy....... lol.

What You Missed In This Past Workshop

Knife Template

This workshop focused on knife template, sumbrada, and punyo entries. We started with knife template. Manong went a little over certain application aspects of the knife template such as “Out of site, Out of mind” techniques by hiding the blade inline with the body. This helps takes the focus off the blade for a short moment, and puts the focus on the other hand allowing more stealth like techniques. Along with that he briefly talked about covering spray (from blood) from certain cuts.

Sumbrada and Punyo Entries

From there we went into sumbrada. Specifically Super Sumbrada. After going over the basics of the drill he showed us how to throw in the punyo. This adds an extra beat and at the same time shows you how you can move into punyo mano from the drill. To go along with that we went into Punyo Mano entries after. He showed us three entries: high, low, and the percussion. We ran out of time so we ended training there.

Closing

It was another great workshop. Thanks to Manong Rich Verdejo and family for coming down to share some more knowledge with us, to both Bernie and Manong who lead the workshop, and to all who attended. We had a couple of faces come that we haven’t seen in a while so it was nice to have them back to train with the group and Manong Rich. Next seminar with James Urban is coming up! We hope to see you there! Well that’s it for now. Happy Training everyone! ItsYoBoyFlex and I’m out.
